We officially got Lijah’s school assignment on Friday. Our county implemented a new choice plan this year. You are given 5 schools and you have to rank them. We did not get our 1st choice, which is our neighborhood school that is ¼ mile away. It is a new school and very overcrowded.
Our Montessori teacher absolutely LOVES the school he was assigned. She said they embrace creativity & imagination. They also have excellent scores. The only downside is it is a 10 minute drive compared 2 minutes. This school also starts at 9:15 compared to 8:15.
After we got his assignment on Friday, we drove by to see where the school was located. Lijah was so excited! He thought he was going to meet his teacher & new friends right then! One of his very best friends goes to this school, so now they will be able to see each other every day!
A majority of the schools in the area are year round. So, he will go in school 9 weeks and then out for 3. They call these “tracks” and there are a total of 4 for each school, with each track being staggered. The track we requested breaks in mid September. This will be perfect vacation time! Less crowds and discounted rates, woo hoo!
I have linked our grocery savings card to the school, so the school can get education rewards. It is also time to start saving those Boxtops!
I checked out the school website Friday evening. It was bittersweet. I am so excited for this next chapter and so happy for little man because he couldn’t be more thrilled! I was looking through all the links, homework time, talent shows, Spirit Week, PTA! In July, we will officially be Elementary school parents!
